1991- 1994  BSc Chemistry (Hons) Cardiff University

After spending a number of years working as Head of Chemistry at Abbey College in Worcestershire, Monica developed her interest in Natural History and Ecology through her artwork. After moving to Cornwall her work evolved; at times gestural and abstract, a distillation of the geometry of the landscape.  She currently combines her practice as an artist with a teaching position at Falmouth University.

“Painting is my way of connecting with nature. Through mark-making I strive to communicate my love of the landscape, its spirit, ecology and natural rhythms. Trail running and working outside, directly with the landscape with oilbars and pencils will often be my starting point.

Within each painting are the emotions of the place; not a recreation but an evocation of a moment. My work is a personal response to the characteristics of this unique peninsula: dramatic coastline, eroded granite, coastal ecosystems and that ever-changing Cornish light!”
